News and Announcements

The heat is striking!  You know what that means...rattlesnake season.  We've already seen a handful and it's early in the season! If your pet has the misfortune of facing off with one of these dangerous creatures and gets bit, call us immediately! The quicker we can treat, the quicker chance of recovery and survival.  Antivenom is key.  It is expensive and in limited supply, but is still the number one treatment.  There are other things we do as well, so even if you cannot afford the antivenom, please still bring your pet in.  If you have a horse, make sure to bring pieces of hose with you on the trail just in case they get struck in the nose.  Their airway can close quickly, so immediately put the pieces of hose up their nostrils and call us!

Other problems with the summertime are foxtails and heatstroke.  Try to keep your pet out of the foxtails if possible, mow them down, keep their feet closely shaved, and check for foxtails in the fur after being outside.  With regards to the rising temperatures, just make sure your pet has a cool environment.  If outside, provide a shaded area and plenty of cold water.  Consider a children's pool for them to wade in.  If in the car with you, make sure the air conditioner is on.  And NEVER leave them in the car alone!  For other tips, check out our articles on both heatstroke and rattlesnake bites.

Enjoy the summer months! Stay active, go swimming, have fun!
